It’s that time of the year when everyone is scrambling to decide what to study in college. Here are four simple steps to help you decide on your college major!
1) Think about what excites you! What’s your favorite academic subject in school? What’s your favorite hobby/activity that you like to pursue after school hours? Consider which aspects of these you enjoy and what skills you want to hone.
2) Try an internship. Although your school curriculum is hectic, you should consider getting an internship to learn more about the subject and find out if it’s something you really want to pursue. Take a look at some of the job portals around or ask for referrals to obtain a suitable internship opportunity.
3) Check out profiles on LinkedIn. Take a look at profiles of people who have career paths that you are considering. They will typically state which university they graduated from and which degree they pursued. This will give you a good gauge of what you should do to build your resume.
4) Ask around. You may know somone in your network (e.g. your seniors/relatives/parents’ friends) who are pursuing or who have pursued the major that you’re considering. It’s always good to get firsthand information by asking them.
Now, get cracking!
